NY Mets: Who’s the ace?

We all know about how good this Mets’ pitching staff is, but what’s less clear is who is the best of the best rotation in baseball. I’m here to give you the answer.

By the numbers:

The leader of the staff statistically this season was Jacob deGrom, who pitched a 2.54 ERA over 30 starts, slightly better than 2014 (2.69 over 22 starts). He also had 205 strikeouts, 61 more than 2014 (144). Impressive by the MLB sophomore, no doubt.

The rookie, & the youngest of the Mets’ big three (excluding Matz, who’s only started 6 games), Noah Syndergaard, has some of the best ‘stuff’ in the game. No debating that 95-98 mph heat. With that, he pitched an impressive 3.24 ERA over his first 24 starts, striking out 166 batters. This kid’s got ‘it’, & I think he’s the best long-term option the Mets have right now. I mean, he’s only 23.

Harvey. The seemingly forgotten about ace of this staff. This guy was considered in the 2013 season to be the truth. One of the lone bright spots on a shakey Mets team. In his third season (minus his missing 2014 season), Harvey had an ERA of 2.71 a season away from Tommy John, all while pitching in a career-high 29 games. He also fanned 188 batters, three less than his 2013 season. Think about these numbers. Harvey, in a season where he wasn’t 100% all year, had virtually the same season he did when he was 100%, two years earlier. One could only imagine what these numbers would look like had he been healthy all 29 starts.

Harvey is the experience in this young staff, & at 26 years old, he’s only going to get better.

Matt Harvey is still the Mets’ ace.
