Survivor Series is rapidly approaching, and all the focus surrounding the event is on the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Tournament and The Brothers of Destruction taking on two members of the Wyatt Family. (Why isn’t this a 4 on 4 with Finn Balor and Boogeyman, who is signed to a legends contract?) But no traditional elimination matches have been booked yet. Now the company is probably going to add one, but it’s going to feel rushed. So it needs to include superstars who can provide great in ring action and possibly further storylines or create new ones.
The event is called Survivor Series, and while we’re getting the “Survivor” part from the tournament, the event started with the elimination matches. So rather than having one, the company should book two. After all, the only matches on the card right now are Roman Reigns vs Alberto Del Rio, Kevin Owens vs Dean Ambrose, Undertaker and Kane vs The Wyatt Family (two members) and Paige vs Charlotte for the Divas Championship. The tag team titles are currently not on the line, and the US and Intercontinental champion are both in tournament. By adding two traditional matches, that bumps the card up to seven matches, and with three hours to fill, the superstars involved could get a lot of ring time and produce a high quality match.
Here are my two ideas for the matches.
Match 1
The New Day, Wade Barrett & Sheamus vs The Usos, The Lucha Dragons & Ryback
We just saw on Raw a DQ finish between Ryback, The Usos & The New Day. Was this done so that we could see this turn into an elimination match at Survivor Series? Let’s hope so. It should be announced on Smackdown. But the matches aren’t typically 3 on 3, so they would each need to find some partners. The New Day would then recruit Wade Barrett & Sheamus who have formed a nice partnership lately. The New Day are tag team champions, so they think of themselves as winners. So they want to recruit winners. Now, Wade Barrett and Sheamus both lost in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament. But New Day still thinks they’re winners. Sheamus is the current Money in the Bank contract holder while Wade Barrett is King Barrett, winner of the King of the Ring. Not only does this team consist of the current tag team champions, but it consists of a former World Champion, but besides Xavier Woods, every member of the team has held the US or Intercontinental Championship as well. Because these guys are winners.
Now Ryback and The Usos need to find two members for their team. This is where the Lucha Dragons come in. Kalisto is coming off a great performance in the WWE World Heavyweight championship tournament, and has the respect of Ryback, who he beat in the first round. Not only that, but the Lucha Dragons have beaten Wade Barrett and Sheamus in tag team action. They also like to fly around the ring and outside the ring, much like The Usos. This team could have great chemistry with each other.
The match wouldn’t disappoint either. These 10 guys are all great performers in the ring. Wade Barrett and Sheamus have shown in the past that they can produce some really great work with smaller opponents, so they’d be able to do some nice stuff with the Lucha Dragons. The New Day is the hottest thing going and The Usos don’t seem to have a bad match with anyone. Bring in Ryback and Big E for the power aspect, and you have a match that potentially can have it all if given the right amount of time.
This match could also be a great way to find the next number 1 contenders for the tag team championships. Have one member of The Usos eliminate a member of the New Day and have one member of the Lucha Dragons eliminate another member of the New Day. The Usos and Lucha Dragons would both then have a legitimate claim to being the number 1 contenders for the Tag Team Championships. More on that in the future.
Match 2
Tyler Breeze, Stardust, The Ascension, & The Miz vs Dolph Ziggler, Cesaro, The Dudleys & Neville
This match is pretty much a collection of superstars who deserve to be on the card. Tyler Breeze vs Dolph Ziggler is the only actual feud in the match. We’ve seen Stardust and The Ascension, otherwise known as The Cosmic Wasteland at ringside for a few of Cesaro’s matches, but nothing has been coming out of that lately. Then Cesaro and Stardust were inserted in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament and The Ascension and Stardust haven’t been seen together nearly as much as of late. The Dudleys and The Ascension have battled lately, but have been hurt by the lack of time. That would not be a problem in this match, which should kick off the event.
This match is a good way for Neville and The Miz to get on the card, and it could potentially start a program between the two of them. These two need to be involved in each other’s elimination. Having that happen would be the start of a nice midcard feud which could then turn into the kickoff match for the following pay per view.
This would also be used to further the feud between Dolph Ziggler and Tyler Breeze. The way to do that is to not have either one eliminate the other. Instead, have them get counted out while fighting on the outside. Then we would be down to Cesaro and The Dudleys against Stardust and The Ascension, collectively known as The Cosmic Wasteland. This could start a feud between Cesaro and Stardust and The Ascension could finally get a meaningful victory, if they could somehow eliminate The Dudleys and Cesaro with the help of Stardust.
Not only do these two matches make sense, but they set up for the future. And with Seth Rollins out for a while, the company needs to come up with some interesting television.
